This December we are beyond excited to welcome world renowned middle eastern musician, Sami Abu Shumays along with Brian Prunka and Zafer Tawil to be our guest musical act offering a morning of classical and folk Arabic dancing tunes.

About the event
Sami Abu Shumays is coming to New Orleans for a series of maqam workshops and performances with visiting musicians Brian Prunka and Zafer Tawil.
Sami Abu Shumays is a violinist, vocalist, and leading performer and teacher of classical Arabic music, as well as a master of the maqam system. For anyone interested in learning Arabic music, this is an amazing opportunity. Sami has a deep understanding of the maqamat and is a fantastic teacher.
And their weekend will end with a beautiful Sunday brunch in place of our classic Cajun brunch. Food by Stella Maris. This is also a fundraiser to support mutual aid group specifically supporting musicians in Gaza
This Sunday will be run by volunteers and a unique opportunity to enjoy music and support a worthy cause.

Bring your dancing shoes and rhythm instruments.
Sami will teach maqam workshops on Thursday from 12-1:30pm, and on Friday from 12-1:30pm and 6-7:30pm, at the Tigermen Den (3113 Royal Street). Workshops are open to all levels of musicians and do not require prior knowledge of Arabic music. Voice will be the primary instrument for all participants. Each standalone workshop will focus on a specific maqam. Saturday’s workshop from 3-4:40pm at AMAANA Cultural Center will focus on families and kids. Each workshop is $15-30.
